One
of the most commonly performed facial plastic surgery procedures. The inevitable
natural aging process results in increased facial wrinkles and sagging skin,
particularly along the jawline and upper neck. These changes can make you
look years older than you are. The goal of a facelift is to reduce signs of
aging by removing excess fat, tightening the underlying muscles and redraping
the skin around the neck and face. The end result is a naturally younger and
well-rested face.
Using incisions hidden along the hairline and border of the ear, facelift
surgery can effectively rejuvenate your face and restore a youthful look.
Although the term "facelift" implies lifting the entire face, the
surgery targets the lower two-thirds of the face (below the eyes) and the
upper neck.
The surgery
is usually done under a general anesthetic. Skin and underlying tissues are
lifted and realigned to a more youthful position. If you have signs of extensive
sun damage (finer wrinkles), additional procedures, such as laser resurfacing,
may be recommended. Facelift is also commonly performed in conjunction with
Browlift and Blepharoplasty for complete facial rejuvenation
Facelift patients are typically observed overnight in the hospital for one
day. Most patients demonstrate mild to moderate bruising and swelling during
the first few days, which begins to subside after the first week. A dressing
is left in place for 2-3 days. All sutures are removed within 7-10 days. Healing
continues for several weeks as the shape of your face begins to see even more
refinement.
